PM Awas Yojana: Govt to Give Extra Rs 10,000 for Completing House Before Deadline

PM Awas Yojan: Beneficiaries will receive an additional 10,000 rupees if they complete construction of the Prime Minister’s Housing Scheme before the scheduled deadline. Poor families in urban areas will have to apply online to benefit from the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) 2.0.

What changes in PM Awas Yojana 2.2?

A major change has been made in the PM Awas Yojana (Urban) 2.0. The first and most significant change is that the offline application system has been completely eliminated. Previously, both online and offline applications were available for PM Awas Yojana. Additionally, beneficiaries who complete the construction of a PM Awas Yojana in 12 months or less will receive an additional Rs 10,000.

When did the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana start?

The urban version of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana was launched by the central government on April 1, 2016. Later, its second phase, PMAY-U 2.0, was implemented from September 1, 2024. The aim of this phase is to provide permanent houses to families belonging to the EWS, LIG, and MIG categories living in urban areas over the next five years. Who is eligible for the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana benefits? Under the PMAY, the economically weaker section, lower income group, and middle-income group are included.

The annual income of people in the EWS category should be up to Rs 3 lakh, for the lower income group up to Rs 6 lakh, and for the middle-class category up to Rs 9 lakh. Under this scheme, beneficiaries are provided financial assistance of up to Rs 2.5 lakh for house construction, of which Rs 1.5 lakh is provided by the central government and Rs 1 lakh by the state government. Additionally, an interest subsidy of up to Rs 1.8 lakh is provided. Preference is also given to slum dwellers, street vendors, and working women under this scheme.

Priority for senior citizens and transgenders

 

In the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana 2.0, widows, deserted women, persons with disabilities, senior citizens, transgenders, Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, minorities, and other vulnerable and disadvantaged groups in society, as well as sanitation workers, will be included. Additionally, beneficiaries of the PM SWANidhi scheme, street vendors, and workers covered under the Pradhan Mantri Vishwakarma Scheme will be included. Furthermore, Anganwadi workers, construction workers, and people living in slums will be included in a special focus group.

An additional Rs 30, 000 for senior citizens

Project Officer Duda stated that under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban), 2.5 lakh rupees are provided. In the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana 2.0, senior citizens will get an additional 30 thousand rupees, and widows and divorced women will get an additional 20 thousand rupees. Additionally, 10 thousand rupees will be given extra if the house is completed within the specified time.
