How much will be received instead of Rs. 1000?
Currently, beneficiaries under the Uttar Pradesh Old Age, Destitute Widow, and Disability Pension Schemes receive Rs. 1,000 per month. Under the new scheme, this amount is being prepared to be increased to Rs. 1,500 per month. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath recently indicated in the budget review meetings for 2026-27 that public welfare would be the main focus of the upcoming budget. Experts believe that this could also prove to be a major political move by the government in an election year.
Who will benefit?
According to government figures, a large section of the state will benefit from this pension increase. Approximately 67.50 lakh elderly people will receive relief under the old-age pension scheme. More than 33 lakh women will receive financial support through the destitute widow pension scheme. Similarly, the increased amount will reach the accounts of approximately 11 lakh persons with disabilities under the disability pension scheme.

Keep Digital Payments in Mind
The increased pension amount will only be disbursed to Aadhaar-seeded accounts. The government is fully utilising Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). If a beneficiary’s e-KYC is not complete or their bank account is not linked to Aadhaar, their name may be removed from the new list. Therefore, pensioners are advised to keep their bank accounts and Aadhaar updated.
Will the official announcement be made in the budget?
According to sources, the Social Welfare Department has prepared the framework for the pension increase, and additional funds will be allocated for this in the budget for the upcoming financial year. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath says that improving the lives of the poor, underprivileged, and elderly is the government’s top priority. However, there has been no official announcement regarding this increase yet.
