PAN 2.0 Update: Will the New PAN Card with QR Code Require an Aadhaar Link? Key Details You Need to Know

The Indian government has approved the new PAN 2.0 plan. Under this plan, the PAN card will be upgraded, and a QR code will be included. This has raised questions about whether the new PAN card will also need to be linked to the Aadhaar card. Here, we provide information related to the PAN 2.0 card and Aadhaar linking.

What is PAN 2.0?

First, let’s understand the PAN 2.0 plan and its impact on your old PAN card. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated during the cabinet briefing that the Government of India is set to launch the PAN 2.0 Project. This will be an advanced version of India’s PAN system, designed to simplify business and citizen-centric operations. Importantly, your existing PAN card will not be deactivated but will instead be upgraded. Additionally, there will be no charges for getting your PAN card updated under this plan.

Will the New PAN Card Have to Be Linked to an Aadhaar?

Firstly, you do not need to get a new PAN card made. Instead, your existing PAN card will need to be updated. A QR code will be printed on the new card, enabling it to perform several functions. The government aims to make PAN a universal identifier across all digital systems of government organizations. If your PAN card is already linked to Aadhaar, you will not need to link it again. It is important to note that approximately 80 crore people in India have PAN cards, which they use for various financial transactions. If you need a new PAN card, you can apply for it through the official website at onlineservices.nsdl.com.
