LPG- Big Relief for India! LPG Tanker Crosses Strait of Hormuz

The Indian government is rapidly advancing a plan to lay a deep-sea gas pipeline directly from Oman to ensure uninterrupted gas supplies from the Gulf region.

LPG: Good news is here about LPG.  Another LPG tanker is making its way across the Strait of Hormuz, bound for India. Indeed, the LPG tanker MV Sunshine has successfully navigated the Strait of Hormuz and is now proudly en route to India. The Indian Navy, along with other agencies, is providing an escort for it. This marks the 15th LPG vessel to traverse the Strait of Hormuz and be safely escorted from the region. The Indian Navy continues to serve as its protective shield.

As per a report, the LPG tanker MV Sunshine crossed the Strait of Hormuz on Wednesday night. It is now heading towards India after being safely evacuated from the Persian Gulf. Sources reveal that various agencies, including the Indian Navy, are escorting the LPG vessel on its journey to India. However, details regarding the quantity of LPG gas the vessel is carrying have not been disclosed.

What is the current situation regarding LPG in India?

In the meantime, Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri stated on Wednesday that the government has effectively managed the energy supply disruptions caused by the West Asia crisis, ensuring minimal impact on consumers. He also highlighted that India has significantly ramped up domestic LPG production during this time.

What has Iran stated about Hormuz?

On the same day, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Kazem Gharibabadi, mentioned that the situation in the Strait of Hormuz will improve once peace is restored. Gharibabadi remarked, “The situation in the Strait of Hormuz will be better than before when peace is established. Everything will be clear, and there will be no chaos. We will adhere to international law. If peace is achieved, there will be greater security and safety than previously experienced.”

Earlier on Tuesday, Iran expressed its willingness to welcome any initiative from India aimed at reducing tensions in West Asia, with Gharibabadi commending New Delhi’s neutral position ahead of the BRICS foreign ministers’ meeting. He stated, “India consistently supports peace and is always in favor of peace.”

After the Iran war disrupted oil and gas supplies through the Strait of Hormuz, known as an energy corridor, India is now working on a mega-project. If this project, worth approximately Rs 40,000 crore, is successful, India will experience no gas shortages for decades to come. Tensions in West Asia have caused serious disruptions to the energy supply chain from Asia to Europe, impacting India as well. New Delhi is an energy-dependent country, importing most of its oil and gas from Gulf countries. Consequently, the turmoil in West Asia caused by the Iran war is also impacting India. Along with alternative energy sources, alternatives to the Strait of Hormuz are also being seriously explored.
