Why is registration necessary on the e-filing portal

ITR Filing 2025

The e-filing portal of the Income Tax Department provides many services to taxpayers on the digital platform. Apart from filing ITR here, you can check the refund status, respond to notices, and check the record of old filings. Without registration, neither filing ITR is possible nor can a refund be claimed.

Documents required for registration

Three things are required to register on the e-filing portal: an active and valid PAN card, a mobile number, and an email ID. Separate registration has to be done for each PAN card. Once registered, all tax-related services are available digitally.
