Indian Railways: What is Half Ticket? Know before travelling by train

What is a half ticket?

Many families travel by train with their children, and it’s interesting to note that young kids can ride for free on Indian trains! Indian Railways does not impose any charges for this. If you weren’t aware, let us share more details with you. According to Indian Railways’ guidelines, children aged 1 to 4 can travel without a ticket. There’s no need to purchase anything for them. However, for children aged 5 to 12, a half-ticket is required. If you prefer to secure a full seat for your child, you will need to pay the full fare.

Here are some essential tips to keep in mind while traveling on Indian trains. Smoking is prohibited on board, and carrying flammable or explosive items is strictly forbidden.
