Indian Railways Ticket: The implementation of a system to indicate the name and number of the train on general tickets is being considered. This initiative aims to mitigate overcrowding on specific trains during festivals or religious events.
In light of the tragic incident that resulted in the deaths of 18 individuals during a stampede at New Delhi Railway Station, the Railway Board is giving serious thought to this proposal.
Train’s name and number will be included on general tickets
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav shared this information with the media during an informal gathering at Rail Bhavan on Monday. He stated that as part of the strategy to enforce a crowd management manual within the railways, the train’s name and number will be included on general tickets.
This is the current scenario
Currently, the lack of this information allows passengers to travel in the general class of any train. With the proposed changes, passengers will be required to travel only on the designated train, and non-compliance may lead to penalties. The railways are expected to soon issue directives to modify the software of the Passenger Reservation System (PRS).
No established guidelines regarding the number of general tickets
At present, there are no established guidelines regarding the number of general tickets that can be issued for each train. This new arrangement is intended to reduce the likelihood of overcrowding in the general coaches. According to railway regulations, general tickets are not valid for premium trains such as Express, Superfast, Rajdhani, and Vande Bharat. Passengers using general tickets on these trains will be classified as ticketless travelers.
