Big announcement at the beginning of the new year

The Delhi government has decided to implement a new pension system for citizens struggling with severe disabilities. Under this scheme, eligible beneficiaries will be provided with financial assistance of Rs 6000 every month. Earlier, the disability pension amount in Delhi was Rs 2500 per month. After the notification issued on September 25, 2025, this scheme was formally implemented, which is expected to directly benefit thousands of people with disabilities.

What is the objective of the scheme?

The main objective of this pension scheme is to provide financial assistance to people with disabilities who require regular care, treatment, or special therapy. In cases of severe disability, there are continuous expenses on physiotherapy, counseling, medicines, and other services. The government wants this pension amount to help meet these essential needs and enable people with disabilities to live better lives without being dependent on others.

Who can benefit from the scheme?

Only those with severe disabilities can benefit from this scheme. The applicant must be a permanent resident of Delhi for at least five years. Additionally, the family’s annual income should be less than one lakh rupees. Having an Aadhaar card and a Delhi domicile certificate are also mandatory requirements.

Medical examination and scoring system

The government has clarified that the pension will not be given solely based on a disability certificate. A detailed medical examination of the beneficiary will be conducted. A special team of doctors will be formed, who will determine the amount of financial assistance required by the applicant through a scoring system. This will help in ensuring that the benefits of the scheme reach the truly needy.

Documents Required for Application

When applying for the scheme, applicants must submit an identity card issued by the SDM, proof of residence, Aadhaar card, Delhi domicile certificate, passport-size photograph, and a valid disability certificate. All documents must be accurate and up-to-date.

Application Process

Persons with disabilities can obtain the application form from the Social Welfare Office in their district. The form must be filled out with correct information, and the necessary documents must be attached. An online application facility is also available through the official website of the Delhi government, making the process even easier.

Pension Amount will be Credited Directly to the Account

The pension amount under this scheme will be transferred directly to the bank account of the person with a disability. Initially, there was speculation that the money would be given to caregivers, but the government has clarified that the assistance will be provided directly to the beneficiary. This scheme applies to individuals with disabilities ranging from 60 percent to 100 percent.
