The Bihar Laghu Udyami Yojana (Bihar Small Entrepreneur Scheme) of the Bihar government is proving to be a strong means for the youth of the district to become self-reliant. In the financial year 2025, this scheme has created new employment opportunities in the Samastipur district. Operated through the District Industries Centre, this scheme is reaching young people and needy families who were unable to start their own businesses due to limited income.

Thousands of Youth Receive Entrepreneurship Training
According to information received from the District Industries Centre, Samastipur, approximately 2400 applicants received entrepreneurship development training during the financial year 2025. This training provided young people with basic information related to starting a business, management skills, and financial literacy, enabling them to utilize government assistance effectively and successfully run their enterprises.
1740 Youth Receive First Installment of Financial Assistance
After completing the training, 1740 eligible beneficiaries received the first installment of Rs. 50,000 directly transferred to their bank accounts. This amount is helping young people meet the initial needs of their small businesses. So far, 2830 applications have been approved under the scheme, clearly indicating the growing interest in self-employment in the district.
61 Types of Businesses to Choose From
Under the Bihar Laghu Udyami Yojana, the government has recognized 61 different types of businesses. Young people can start businesses such as ice cream manufacturing, flour-sattu-besan production, auto garages, agricultural machinery manufacturing, welding, spice industry, animal feed, ready-made garments, furniture manufacturing, oil and pulse mills, according to their interests and resources. This has significantly broadened the options for self-employment.
Computerized Selection Process Enhances Transparency
The selection of beneficiaries under the scheme is done through a completely computerized randomization process. This minimizes the possibility of any irregularities. Only one member from a family is eligible to benefit from the scheme. The financial assistance is provided in three installments through the District Industries Centre.

Eligibility and Required Documents
To avail of this scheme, the applicant must be between 18 and 50 years of age. The family’s monthly income must be less than ₹6,000. At the time of application, an Aadhaar card, age certificate, income certificate, caste certificate, and residence certificate are mandatory. Applicants with disabilities must also submit a disability certificate.
