LPG Insurance: With the free gas connection scheme of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Ujjwala Yojana, LPG gas cylinders are being used in every household in villages today. Many times a major accident occurs due to gas cylinder explosion, which also causes loss of life and property. But if you work a little wisely, you can compensate for this loss. Actually, liquefied petroleum gas companies provide insurance cover (LPG Cylinder Insurance Policy) to every LPG cylinder customer. Under this, you can claim insurance up to Rs 50 lakh in case of loss of life and property in any accident caused by LPG cylinder.

Distributors of petroleum companies like Indian Oil, Hindustan Petroleum and Bharat Petroleum have to get this insurance policy. These distributors get policies for third party insurance cover for customers and other properties. Under this, you can make an insurance claim in case of an accident, property damage and death due to gas cylinder. This insurance on LPG connection is being given through ICICI Lombard.

When and how is insurance done?
Actually, the insurance of LPG cylinder is linked to its purchase and its expiry date. But, it is often seen that people buy LPG cylinder without checking the expiry date. In this case, you are not entitled to insurance claim. So now whenever you buy a gas cylinder, take special care of the expiry date.

How much is the insurance?
– In case of a major accident due to LPG gas cylinder, customers can claim insurance of up to Rs 40 lakh for their property damage.
– If someone dies due to LPG cylinder explosion, then in this case a maximum insurance claim of Rs 50 lakh can be made.
– If someone dies in an accident, then compensation of Rs 6 lakh per accident and per person is given.
– If someone is injured, then compensation of up to Rs 30 lakh per accident is given for his medical expenses, which can be up to Rs 2 lakh per person.
– Along with this, every person is given immediate help of up to Rs 25,000. –
Every person affected in such an accident can be given a maximum compensation of Rs 10 lakh.
– Apart from this, a maximum cover of Rs 15 lakh (1 lakh per person) is available for the treatment of family members.
– Only the person in whose name the cylinder is registered gets the insurance amount. There is no provision for making a nominee in this. That is, if the person in whose name the cylinder is registered dies in an accident, no claim can be made.

How can you claim?

  1. -If an accident occurs with an LPG gas cylinder, you will have to inform your nearest police station and distributor about it within 30 days of the accident.
  2. -To claim insurance money, you will have to submit a copy of the FIR, list of injured or dead in the accident, current
  3. condition of the injured, details of medical expenses.
  4. -If someone has died in such an accident, then his death report will also have to be provided.
  5. -After giving the information, the concerned officer will investigate the causes of the accident.
  6. -If the accident has really happened due to the LPG gas cylinder, then the concerned officer will inform the gas company about it.
  7. -After this, a team of the insurance policy will go to the spot for investigation. Then this team will decide the amount of insurance claim.
  8. -The oil or gas company sends the money for insurance claim to its distributor.
  9. -The distributor hands over the claim money to his customer or his family members.

This entire process usually takes 3 to 5 months. The necessary condition to avail the insurance policy is that the compensation amount will be given only if the accident has happened at a registered residence.
