Now, you can get a new Voter ID card online from the comfort of your home, using your mobile or laptop, in just a few minutes. This process is very simple and eliminates the need to visit a government office.
Who can apply for a Voter Card?
Several criteria have been established for applying for a Voter ID card. The applicant must be an Indian citizen and have a permanent address in India. Those applying for a Voter ID card must be at least 18 years of age. If you are 18 years or older, you can apply online depending on your constituency.

Required Documents for a Voter ID Card
Several required documents must be uploaded when applying for a Voter ID card. These documents can be uploaded in JPG, JPEG, or PDF formats. Two passport-sized photographs, address proof (such as electricity bill, water bill, bank passbook, rent agreement, etc.), identity proof (Aadhaar card, PAN card, passport, or ration card), and age proof (birth certificate or 10th grade marksheet) are required. Have all documents ready before starting the application process to avoid any interruptions.
Process to Apply for a Voter Card Online
- To obtain a new voter card, you must visit the Election Commission’s official website: https://voters.eci.gov.in/.
- Go to the ‘Electors’ section on the website and log in. If you don’t already have an account, click ‘Sign Up’ to create a new account.
- Following this process, fill in ‘Form 6’, where you must enter your name, father’s or spouse’s name, date of birth, Aadhaar number, address, and other details.
- After uploading all the required documents, enter the captcha code and click ‘Preview & Submit’.
- When submitting the form, you must click ‘Yes’ on the screen. A reference number will then be generated, which you should save. You can track the status of your application online using this number.

How long does it take to get a voter card?
After your application is submitted, the Election Commission team reviews your documents. If all the information is found to be correct, a digital e-Voter ID is issued first, and a physical card is mailed to your home shortly afterward. This process is usually completed within a few weeks.
Voter Card Download Process
If you have already applied for a voter card and want to check its status or download your e-Voter Card, log in to the same website. You will find the ‘Download e-Voter Card’ option there. You can download your digital voter card by logging in with your reference number or registered mobile number.
