FASTag New Rule 2026: FASTag Annual Pass Reduces Toll Cost to ₹15 per Trip, Full Details Inside

FASTag Update 2026: Launched by the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) on August 15, 2025, the FASTag Annual Pass has become extremely popular among motorists across the country. According to data from February 2026, over 5 million people have adopted this pass in just six months. This pass is specifically designed for those who frequently travel on highways. Thanks to this feature, one in four cars now uses this pass to pay tolls on national highways.

Pass Price and Validity

The FASTag Annual Pass costs ₹3,000. Once paid, you can avail a total of 200 toll crossings within a year. An average toll trip normally costs ₹70 to ₹80, but with this pass, the cost is reduced to just ₹15 per trip. This means you can save between ₹7,000 and ₹10,000 in a year.

This pass is valid until either the year is over or you complete 200 trips. Once either of these limits is reached, your FASTag automatically returns to ‘normal mode,’ and you’ll then have to pay per trip.

Where will this pass work and where won’t

It’s important to know that this pass is valid only at toll plazas operated by the NHAI (National Highway Authority of India) and the Ministry of Road Transport. Currently, approximately 1,150 toll plazas across the country are covered by this scheme. However, this annual pass will not work on state government-controlled expressways and highways (such as the Yamuna Expressway in Uttar Pradesh or the Agra-Lucknow Expressway).

There, you’ll have to pay the regular toll fee from your FASTag wallet balance. Additionally, this feature is only available for private (non-commercial) vehicles such as cars, jeeps, and vans; this pass is not available for commercial vehicles.

How to activate the pass through the app

You don’t need to purchase a new FASTag to activate the FASTag Annual Pass; it can be activated on your old tag. First, download the Rajmarg Yatra app from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store. Go to the ‘Annual Pass’ option in the app and enter your vehicle number (VRN). The system will verify your eligibility through the ‘Vahan Portal’.

An OTP will then be sent to your mobile phone. After entering it, you can make the payment of ₹3,000 via UPI, debit card, or net banking. Your pass is activated within 2 to 24 hours of payment, and you will receive an SMS confirmation.

Important Terms and Conditions

The Annual Pass is completely non-transferable, meaning it cannot be transferred from one vehicle to another. If you remove your FASTag and use it on another vehicle, your pass may be immediately blacklisted or deactivated.

Furthermore, the ₹3,000 paid for the pass is non-refundable. In terms of trip counting, each crossing on an open toll system counts as one trip, while on closed toll systems (such as some expressways with entry and exit points), a single entry and exit counts as one trip.
