New Delhi: Members of the Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) can now proceed to delete or unlink incorrect Member IDs (MIDs) associated with their Universal Account Number (UAN). The Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) has sanctioned the continuation of this service. As reported by ET, in a circular released on Monday, the EPFO announced that a user manual has been made available for the deletion of incorrect Member IDs.

Officials have approved this extension to tackle situations where a member’s ID was created without their consent and has been linked to an incorrect ID. However, the EPFO clarified that if a withdrawal claim has already been submitted against that Member ID, if a claim is still pending, or if there have been more than six deposits made against that ID, a deletion request cannot be processed.

How can you submit a request?

Members must first initiate a request via the Member Portal. This request will be forwarded to the employer, who can either approve or deny it. If the employer approves the request, the ID will be deleted at the company level.
What if the company rejects the request?

If the employer denies the request or does not take any action within two weeks, or if the ID has been credited between two and six times, the issue will be escalated to the regional office. After conducting an investigation, officials there will either approve or reject the request.

How to remove MID?

Log into the Member Portal using your UAN and password. Navigate to View and select Service History. All IDs linked to your UAN will be displayed here, along with complete details such as the company name, joining date, and leaving date. Click the De-link button next to the account you wish to remove. The system will automatically verify if you are eligible to remove it. If there is a pending claim or any other issue, an error message will be displayed. If everything is in order, the request will be processed.

What is UAN?

The Universal Account Number (UAN) is a 12-digit number assigned to all employed individuals by the EPFO.
