EPFO New Guideline: Now you will not get UAN without a face scan – know the process

EPFO New Guideline: If you are a government or non-government employee, then you must have a PF account. If yes, then this news can be special for you. If you have an EPFO ​​account and you have not activated your UAN yet, then let us tell you that from August 1, 2025, a special service has been started through EPFO. Under a rule of EPFO, the generation and activation of UAN has been done through face authentication technology from the Umang app. Now, all digital services related to EPF, like balance check, KYC update, or withdrawal of money, and e-UAN card can be downloaded. This has become necessary for this.

Know the new rule of EPFO

EPFO has implemented a rule that, from now on, to generate a new UAN and activate the already made UAN, you will have to do an Aadhaar-based face scan. This work will be done only through the UMANG app. Regarding this, EPFO has written in its circular that its process has been made easy to avoid mistakes. Now, UAN generation will be possible only through the Umang app.

UAN activation has been made mandatory. In this, UAN activation has been made mandatory to join EPFO’s online services such as EPF withdrawal, balance check, eKYC update, claim status, and ELI program. Let us tell you that some people will be given an exemption in this process. In this, the same process will be applicable for the citizens of Nepal-Bhutan.

How to generate and activate a new UAN?

• Open the UMANG app and select the UAN Allotment and Activation option.
• Enter the Aadhaar number and mobile number, and tick the consent box.
• Then click on Send OTP and enter the OTP.
• If asked, download the Aadhaar Face RD App.
• Start Face Authentication and scan the face with the camera.
• As soon as the scan is complete, a new UAN will be created, and information will be received through SMS.

What to do if UAN is already created but is not active?

• First, go to UAN Activation in the UMANG app
• Now enter the UAN number, Aadhaar, and mobile number.
• Then verify with OTP.
• After this, do Face Authentication.
• As soon as the activation is complete, you will get a temporary password through SMS, and your photo and address will be added to the EPFO ​​records.

How to do face verification of already activated UAN?

• First, go to Face Authentication of Already Activated UANs in the UMANG app.
• Then give consent and scan the face.
• Now the system will verify your identity with Aadhaar.
• After this, the record will be updated automatically.
