Most Profitable Mushroom and Small-Scale Cultivation Guide

Mushrooms with the Highest Profit Potential

There are numerous mushrooms available worldwide. The most common mushrooms for business are oyster mushroom, button mushroom, milky mushroom, and shiitake mushroom. Here again, oyster mushroom is both the most profitable as well as the easiest to grow; it grows very well in hot and humid environments, making it a great option for India and Bangladesh to grow.

How to Start Growing Mushrooms on a Small Scale

Location Selection

You will not require separate land to grow mushrooms. A beginning area can just be a 10 by 10 feet room. The room will be best for mushroom cultivation if it is fairly cool, humid, and dark.

Required Equipment

To grow mushrooms you will require spawn, polypropylene bags, super/substrate such as rice husk or wheat husk, a water spray bottle, rope, stick, and humidity meter.

Substrate Preparation

After boiling (in water) the substrate you will need to dry, bag and add spawn to the substrate in layers.

Incubation

After bagging the substrate and spawn it is time to place your bags in a dark room at 20 to 25 degrees Celsius with humidity levels of 80 to 90%. After approximately 15 to 20 days there should be a covering of white mycelium on the bag.

Harvesting

After 20 days, the bags should be moved to an airy location with light. Within a few days mushrooms will grow from the bags. Bags can be harvested two to three times.
Investment Required

If you have your own space, the initial cost is low. Mushroom spawn of 20 kg costs around 2,400 Tk. Rice bran or wheat husk costs 3,000 Tk. Bags and equipment cost 2,000 Tk. Other costs are about 2,000 Tk. The total investment is around 9,000 Tk, which is about 6,000 to 7,000 Indian Rupees.

Likely Income

Oyster mushrooms sell for 200 to 250 Tk per kilogram. If you produce 8 to 10 kg per day, you can earn around 2,000 Tk daily. Monthly income can be 50,000 to 60,000 Tk. After deducting costs, net profit can be around 30,000 Tk per month.

Ways to Sell

You can sell mushrooms in local markets, supply to hotels and restaurants, join online food delivery apps, or make dried mushrooms or mushroom powder and sell them.

Tips for Success

Take 2 to 3 days of training before starting. Keep the house clean and disinfected. Start small and gradually increase production. Build contacts with buyers in advance. You can also create your own brand and sell online.

Even with only 100 square feet of land, you can start this business and earn good income from home. The best part is you do not need to spend much to begin.
