Aadhaar PAN Card Link– If you used Aadhaar enrolment ID instead of Aadhaar number while making a PAN card, then now there is an important alert for you. The Income Tax Department has issued a new guideline regarding such cases, in which it is clearly stated that it is necessary to provide the information of the real Aadhaar number instead of Aadhaar enrolment ID. If the process of linking Aadhaar number to PAN is not completed by the stated deadline, then your PAN card may also become inoperative.
Here is the new guideline
This guideline applies to those who used Aadhaar Enrollment ID instead of Aadhaar number while applying for PAN card on or before 1 October 2024. Usually this happens when someone’s Aadhaar number is not issued at the time of application. In such cases, linking of Aadhaar number and PAN is not possible. This is the reason why now these people are being asked to provide information about their real Aadhaar number to the Income Tax Department.
What is the new deadline?
The government has set the last date for linking PAN and Aadhaar as 31 December 2025. If a PAN holder does not provide his Aadhaar number to the department by this deadline, then his PAN card can be declared inactive from January 1, 2026. This will have a direct impact on financial transactions and tax related work because the inactive PAN card will not be valid.
Those who have to file income tax returns should complete this work before 31 July. If the Aadhaar number information is not given on time, then you may face problems in filing income tax returns. Therefore, it will be beneficial to complete the linking process before time.
This instruction has been issued by the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), which comes under the Ministry of Finance. It states that correct and updated information should be recorded in the records of PAN holders, so that any kind of technical or legal hurdles can be avoided in the future. This step has been considered necessary for transparency of data and strengthening of the tax system.
How to update Aadhaar number?
However, it has not been made clear in the notification by CBDT what will be the process of giving Aadhaar number information to the Income Tax Department. But it is believed that for this the same process will have to be followed which is generally done for PAN-Aadhaar linking. That is, PAN and Aadhaar details will have to be updated by going to the e-filing portal. It is believed that no penalty will be charged for this update.
If a PAN holder does not provide his Aadhaar number by 31 December 2025 , then his PAN card can be declared inactive. If this happens, it will become difficult to use the PAN card in all important tasks from filing tax returns to banking or financial transactions. To avoid any such problem, it is important to do this work before the deadline.
