The Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) is a highly beneficial scheme for central government employees and pensioners. Through this scheme, they and their families get affordable and good health services. Now the government has launched a new Health Management Information System (HMIS) under CGHS to further improve service delivery.
This new digital platform has become operational from 28 April 2025 and has replaced the old CGHS software. The new system claims to provide faster access to healthcare services, more transparency, and user-friendliness. If you are also a CGHS beneficiary, then you must know about these important features of the new HMIS.
A 20-year-old software gets a new avatar
The old software of CGHS was in use since 2005, but it was not in line with modern IT standards, cybersecurity framework, and user expectations! Therefore, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare decided to update it.

Let us tell you that the new Health Management Information System (HMIS) of CGHS has become operational from 28 April 2025. It has been created by the Center for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC). This new system is not only fast but also secure.
These amazing features will be available in the new CGHS
Many great features have been included in the next generation HMIS:
PAN-based unique identification
Now every beneficiary will have a unique PAN-based identification, which will reduce duplicate records and streamline eligibility verification. For this, you have to link the PAN card to your CGHS beneficiary ID through the new portal. This will make the identification process even easier.
Integrated digital verification and contribution tracking

Contribution payments will now be automatically verified through integration with Bharat Kosh. That is, problems related to manual entry errors and refunds will no longer occur. From April 28, 2025, you will be able to make payments only through the new CGHS website (www.cghs.mohfw.gov.in).
Bharat Kosh Portal will no longer accept CGHS payments. Earlier, beneficiaries used to pay fees for CGHS cards and get new or renewed cards through this website. But now this work can be done only through the official CGHS website.
Pre-payment checking of the application
The card application will now be verified and approved before payment. This move will give the applicant information about the eligibility and contribution amount in advance, reducing the chances of application rejection. Now you will know whether your application will be accepted or not, even before making the payment.
Online card modification services
Services like card transfer, dependent status change, and category update (for example, switching to pensioner status) can now be done completely online. This will save a lot of time and effort. Now you don’t have to run around offices for these small tasks.
Real-time application tracking and alerts
SMS and email alerts will be sent at every stage of application processing, increasing transparency and eliminating the need for follow-ups. Now you don’t have to make repeated inquiries to know the status of your application.
Mandatory password reset for secure access

To protect against potential threats, all users must reset their password on their first login to adhere to cybersecurity standards. This will ensure the security of your account.
DDO/PAO-based department identificatio
Department verification is done using PAO and DDO codes, which are matched with the salary slips of employees to ensure accurate back-end mapping.
Mobile app re-launched
Easy access to digital CGHS cards.
Real-time status tracking for applications.
E-referral and appointment scheduling.
Direct contact with CGHS Helpdesk and Additional Director (AD) offices.
The ministry has clarified that any payment made through Bharatkosh after 27 April 2025 will automatically cancel the application. That is, in this case, you will have to apply afresh through the new portal.
All beneficiaries above the age of 18 years have been advised to link their PAN card with their CGHS beneficiary ID, and in case of any error, you can easily apply for correction through beneficiary login on the CGHS website www.cghs.mohfw.gov.in. At the same time, the currently issued cards will continue to function normally. So, adopt the new system and avail of CGHS services.
