What degree do you need to open a medicine shop?
To be a doctor, you need certain degrees like MBBS, BDS or BAMS; the same is true of opening a medical store in India. A degree or diploma in Pharmacy such as a B.Pharma or D.Pharma is necessary to open a Pharmacy in India. If you have not completed one of these programs, then you should do so before attempting to establish your Pharmacy.
What can be the fee for the B.Pharma Course?
The B.Pharma course lasts for four years, while the D.Pharma course is only two years long; however, each college will charge different course fees for these courses. To attend a regular government college, you would be looking at approximately 40,000 Taka to 1 Lakh Taka in yearly course fees for a B.Pharma degree, and for a private college, they can charge from 1 Lakh Taka to 3 Lakh Taka each year.

For a D.Pharma course in a government institution, the average yearly course fee can range from 10,000 Taka to 1 Lakh Taka. Depending on where you enrol in a D.Pharma course, it might be possible to pay 50,000 Taka to 1.5 Lakh Taka in the case of private D.Pharma institutions; it would also be the right time to consider starting a business in pharmaceuticals.
Currently, the total number of Jan Aushadhi Kendras in the country has been in constant increase
According to Government figures, the total number of Jan Aushadhi Kendras (PMJAK) that have been opened with the help of the Government through the Pradhan Mantri Bharatiya Jan Aushadhi Pariyojana project stood at 16,912 Jan Aushadhi Kendras across India as of June 30, 2025. Each of these Kendras has a total of 2,110 types of medicines and 315 types of medical devices in stock.

Apply for just Rs 5,000
You can apply to open a Pradhan Mantri Jan Aushadhi Kendra for just Rs 5,000. However, it is important to note that applicants must have a D-Pharma or B-Pharma certificate to open a Jan Aushadhi Kendra. Other requirements include an approximate 120 sq ft of space to operate the Jan Aushadhi Kendra.
Documents required for application
The documents required during the application process to open a Pradhan Mantri Jan Aushadhi Kendra include Aadhaar card, Pharmacist Registration Certificate (D-Pharma), PAN card, a valid mobile number and residence certificate are required, in addition to that.
