India Post has launched another great facility for its crores of customers. Now you can open PPF (Public Provident Fund) and RD (Recurring Deposit) accounts online with the help of Aadhaar Biometric, i.e., e-KYC (Electronic Know Your Customer), and manage them yourself. Earlier, this digital facility was available only for select savings schemes like the Monthly Income Scheme (MIS), Term Deposit (TD), Kisan Vikas Patra (KVP), and National Savings Certificate (NSC). This facility has brought great convenience to crores of Indians.

Now, accounts will be opened and transactions will be done without a slip

According to the news of media reports, from 23 April 2025, India Post has expanded the Aadhaar-based e-KYC process to include the Monthly Income Scheme, Term Deposit, Kisan Vikas Patra, and National Savings Certificate. Customers can now open accounts and transact without the need for a Pay-in Slip or Withdrawal Voucher. This makes the process even faster and simpler.

As per the SB Order of the Department of Posts dated 7 July 2025, the following services under India Post’s Core Banking Solution (CBS) RD and PPF accounts in post offices will now be available using Aadhaar-based biometric e-KYC authentication.

What can you do now

According to the news, now many facilities related to RD and PPF accounts will be available through e-KYC at home or in the post office without much paperwork. Now, RD and PPF accounts can be opened, and money can be deposited in them. RD and PPF loan accounts can be opened, and loans can be disbursed. Loans can be repaid in RD and PPF accounts.

Withdrawals from PPF accounts (without any limit) can be done at the post office using Aadhaar biometrics. Not only this, account closure, change in nomination, and account transfer can also be done through e-KYC. This is a revolutionary change.

Aadhaar will be kept confidential for security

All account opening forms and other forms received from customers for e-KYC-based transactions will display the Aadhaar number hidden (xxx-xxx-_). If Aadhaar is hidden in any document, the postmaster will ensure that the first eight digits of the Aadhaar number are hidden using a black ink pen or sketch. All post offices and CBS-CPCs should ensure that all existing documents containing the Aadhaar number, such as AOF, KYG forms, etc., have the Aadhaar number hidden. This is an important step to ensure the privacy and security of customers.
