Allowance Hike– Good news for government employees. Officers working in the Secretariat and attached offices along with the Directorates will now get Rs 12720 per month as domestic help allowance. This benefit will be available from 01 April 2025. Officers of pay scale level-14 and above are eligible for this benefit. The domestic help allowance has been increased on the basis of increase in the minimum wage rate of unskilled workers.
The Labour Resources Department had issued a notification in March announcing the increase in the remuneration of workers category-wise. On this basis, the government has decided to increase the domestic helper allowance of officers. The amount payable to the domestic helper has been determined on the basis of the minimum wage rate of Rs 424 per day.
This amounts to Rs 12720 per month. Earlier, officers in the pay scale of Rs 18400-500-22400 and above used to get a domestic help allowance of Rs 3000 per month. This arrangement was determined as per the financial resolution of 2008. In 2022, it was amended and linked to the minimum wage rate. Since then it has been updated several times.
Background of the Revision of Allowances
Earlier this allowance was fixed in the year 2008, in which officers used to get Rs 3,000 per month. But in the year 2022, it was revised for the first time by linking it to the minimum wage and now in the latest order it has been increased once again.
