8th Pay Commission Update: Central government employees are increasingly curious about the 8th Pay Commission. It is believed that significant changes in salaries may be expected after the Commission’s recommendations are implemented. The most debated topic is the new fitment factor and how much it will increase the basic salary of employees from Level 1 to Level 10.
Why is the Fitment Factor Important?
The fitment factor plays a crucial role in every pay commission. It is a coefficient that multiplies the existing basic salary to determine the new salary. In the 7th Pay Commission, this factor was set at 2.57, which resulted in an increase in the minimum basic salary from ₹7,000 to ₹18,000.
It is now expected that the fitment factor in the 8th Pay Commission could be as high as 2.86. If this happens, the minimum basic salary could increase from ₹18,000 to approximately ₹51,480. However, this is an estimate, and the final decision will depend on the Commission’s recommendations.
Potential Salaries from Level 1 to Level 10
If the fitment factor of 2.86 is implemented, salaries could see a significant increase. Level 1 employees, whose current basic salary is ₹18,000, could receive approximately ₹51,480. Level 2 employees could receive an increase of ₹19,900 to approximately ₹56,914. Level 3 employees could receive an increase of ₹21,700 to approximately ₹62,062.
Level 4 employees could receive an increase of ₹25,500 to approximately ₹72,930. Level 5 employees could receive an increase of ₹29,200 to approximately ₹83,512. A Level 6 basic salary of ₹35,400 can increase to approximately ₹1,01,244.
Similarly, a Level 7 salary of ₹44,900 can increase to approximately ₹1,28,414, a Level 8 salary of ₹47,600 can increase to approximately ₹1,36,136, a Level 9 salary of ₹53,100 can increase to approximately ₹1,51,866, and a Level 10 salary of ₹56,100 can increase to approximately ₹1,60,446.
Which positions fall under which level?
Level 1 includes multi-tasking staff, attendants, and similar employees. Level 2 includes lower division clerks. Level 3 includes constables and technical staff. Level 4 includes stenographers and junior clerks.
Level 5 includes senior clerk and assistant positions, Level 6 includes inspectors and junior engineers, Level 7 includes section officers and assistant engineers, Level 8 includes senior section officers and audit officers, and Level 9 includes DSPs and accounts officers.
