8th Pay Commission: The Central Government’s 8th Central Pay Commission has released a significant announcement. It mentions that the Commission will engage in discussions with the Ministry of Defense (MoD), the Ministry of Railways (MoR), along with their associated organizations and unions. This meeting is scheduled to take place in Delhi on May 13 and 14, 2026. Topics such as salary, allowances, and various demands are anticipated to be on the agenda. The 8th Pay Commission conducted a meeting in Delhi during the last week of April. Following this, more meetings are set to occur in different areas. The Commission has also planned visits to other cities, including Hyderabad on May 18-19, Srinagar from June 1-4, and Leh on June 8.

Deadline for submitting suggestions has been extended

The 8th Central Pay Commission has prolonged the deadline for submitting memorandums and suggestions. Initially due on April 30th, the new deadline is now May 31st. The Commission has made it clear that all suggestions must be submitted exclusively through its online portal. It has also indicated that suggestions sent as paper documents, hard copies, PDFs, or via email will not be accepted. Therefore, everyone is required to submit their opinions solely through the specified link.

Key 10 Updates

1. The 8th Pay Commission is set to convene with employee unions and pensioners’ groups from the Railways and Defence sectors on May 13 and 14, 2026, in New Delhi.
2. Following this, the commission will travel to Hyderabad on May 18-19, then to Srinagar from June 1-4, and finally to Ladakh on June 8. During these visits, they will also gather suggestions from employee organizations and pensioners.
3. The outcomes of the 8th Pay Commission are expected to impact around 50 lakh central employees and approximately 69 lakh pensioners.
4. Employee unions are advocating for an increase in the fitment factor from 3.8 to 3.833, which is currently set at 2.57 under the 7th Pay Commission.
5. Various groups are calling for a rise in the minimum basic salary from Rs 65,000 to Rs 69,000, while the existing minimum basic salary stands at Rs 18,000.

The NCJCM has recommended the implementation of a unified pay matrix up to Level 13, the simplification of the promotion system, and the introduction of an inflation-linked salary structure. Moreover, the organization is calling for revisions in housing and utility-based salaries.
