Bihar Homestay Scheme: If you are a resident of Bihar, this news could be especially relevant to you. If you have spare rooms in your home, there is a fantastic opportunity to earn income from them. The Bihar government has launched the ‘CM Homestay Incentive Scheme 2026.’ Under this scheme, people can prepare their vacant rooms to accommodate tourists. The government will provide financial assistance and support to help launch these homestays.
Learn the details of the Chief Minister Homestay Scheme:
The objective of the CM Homestay Incentive Scheme 2026 is to boost tourism in Bihar and provide employment opportunities to people right from their homes. Under this scheme, locals can convert extra rooms in their houses into homestays where tourists from within the country and abroad can stay comfortably. This gives travellers the chance to stay with locals rather than in hotels, allowing them to experience local culture, cuisine, and lifestyle up close.
Who is eligible for this benefit?
The benefits of this scheme are available to those whose homes are located within a 5-kilometre radius of government-selected tourist destinations. Such individuals can start a homestay under this scheme. A homeowner can set up a maximum of 8 rooms for tourists.
How much financial assistance will the government provide?
The Bihar government will provide financial assistance of up to ₹2.5 lakh per room under this scheme. An individual can receive a maximum of ₹10 lakh in total. If the homestay is started by a female entrepreneur, a group, or an individual aged between 18 and 25, they will receive an additional ₹25,000 per room.
Earn income from home:
If your home is near a tourist spot, you can design your spare rooms to accommodate tourists. You will need to obtain approval from the Bihar Tourism Department to ensure that the rooms comply with government regulations. Once approved, your homestay will be listed on the Tourism Department’s portal, making it easy for visiting tourists to book your accommodation. This offers an opportunity to earn income from one’s own home without the need to build a new hotel.
Districts Included
The Bihar government has included 34 tourist destinations across 16 districts in this scheme. These include the Mahabodhi Temple, Vishnupad Temple, Gurpa Hill, Dungeshwari Temple, and Pretshila in Gaya district. They can attract customers through online bookings and accept digital payments. Additionally, they can work as local tour guides and provide travel-related services.
Women to Become Self-Reliant
Women will gain employment opportunities and become self-reliant. Under this scheme, women can prepare and serve local cuisine to tourists and sell traditional handicrafts. They can also organise cultural events and boost their family income by operating homestays. A New Direction for Bihar Tourism
