Meanwhile Banking services will be affected due to a nationwide strike by bank employees in September. Employees and officers of public sector and rural banks are preparing for a movement to press for various demands, including a five-day work week. The United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) has announced a nationwide strike on September 11th. It is expected to impact approximately 3,000 bank branches in Jharkhand. DN Trivedi, National Secretary of the All India Bank Officers’ Association, stated that the UFBU, a joint forum of bank employees and officers, has decided to strike. The bank employees’ primary demand is to implement a five-day work week in banks, similar to the Reserve Bank of India and the insurance sector. They are demanding that the bilateral wage agreement related to the Performance Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme be implemented equally for employees of all cadres.
According to the organization, if the demands are not met after the September 11th strike, a three-day strike will be held on September 28th, 29th, and 30th. September 12th will be the second Saturday, September 13th will be Sunday, September 26th will be the fourth Saturday, and September 27th will be a Sunday holiday. Thus, including the strike and regular holidays, bank branch operations will be affected for eight days in September.
