Nexon and Punch: There are certain pairs in the automobile world that grab the attention of vehicle buyers like none other. One such influential pair that is causing a sensation these days is Tata Nexon and Tata Punch. In May 2025, this dynamic pair lured most of the buyers of Tata Motors, making them the best-selling models of the sub-4m SUV category.
Tata’s Overall Performance in May 2025
Tata Motors has reported indigenous sales of 41,557 passenger vehicles in May 2025. This is down 11% compared to May 2024, when 46,700 units were sold. This fall notwithstanding, Tata continued to remain at the fourth position in the market, after Maruti, Mahindra, and Hyundai.
Nexon and Punch Dominate Tata Sales
Of the total May sales, Punch and Nexon together accounted for over 60%, with a volume of over 26,000 units. This is a remarkable achievement given the competition. The Tata Punch independently registered 13,133 units, continuing its robust performance over the last 12–15 months. Although lower than March’s record 17,714 units, it increased from April’s 12,496 units.
While that, Tata Nexon continued to be a reliable bestseller. In May 2025, it sold 13,096 units, marginally lower than April’s 15,457 and March’s 16,366. The model is still available in ICE, CNG, and EV forms, which attract a wide customer base.
May 2025 Sales Comparison
Year-on-year comparison:
Punch: In May 2025, sales were at 13,133 units, lower than 18,949 units in May 2024—a fall of 31%.
Nexon: Sold 13,096 units in May 2025, from 11,457 in May 2024, achieving a 14% increase.
The difference in numbers shows Punch is experiencing a one-time decline, while Nexon is going in the opposite direction.
What’s Next for Punch?
The 2026 Tata Punch has already been seen on test runs. The new car will take styling clues from the existing Punch EV model and feature revised specs. Yet, it should keep the existing 1.2L petrol unit, with either a 5-speed manual or 5-speed AMT. CNG models will also remain unchanged mechanically.
The Perfect Balance of Choice
Tata’s move to provide various powertrain options for both Nexon and Punch is the key to their success. From the low cost and better mileage of CNG models to the trendy glitz of EVs, Tata is providing consumers with flexible and practical choices. That’s why more than 60% of Tata’s customers in May were attracted to this pair.
