Kia Sonet 2027: If you’ve been waiting for a sub-compact SUV that’s both impressive in looks and unmatched in features, the first glimpse of the Next-Gen Kia Sonet 2027 has been revealed. Spotted testing on Indian roads for the first time, the new Kia Sonet not only surprises with its futuristic design, but the company has also masterminded a plan to address its biggest shortcoming—rear seat space. This car, which has challenged rivals like the Hyundai Venue and Tata Nexon, is now returning in a new avatar, aiming for a 5-star safety rating.

New and Aggressive Design

Leaked images clearly indicate that Kia is aiming to give this small SUV a look similar to its larger, premium cars. The new Sonet’s design is based on Kia’s global design language, which appears to be largely inspired by the new Seltos. Its front fascia features a massive grille that spans the entire width and connects the headlights.

The headlight design is reminiscent of the new-generation Hyundai Venue, but the eyebrow-style LED DRLs above it give it a distinct identity. The car features all-new alloy wheels and slight creases on the bonnet, giving it a muscular and aggressive look. The sunroof is clearly visible on the test model, but whether Kia will offer the panoramic sunroof or stick to a single panel remains a mystery.

Cabin and Space

The current Kia Sonet has been criticized for its limited rear seat space. This time, Kia has found a strong solution. The new Sonet will now be based on the K1 platform, which offers more space and strength than the current K2 platform. Its biggest advantage will be that rear passengers will enjoy better legroom and shoulder room.

The interior has been given a completely new and premium touch. The cabin is expected to feature two large 12.3-inch screens—one for infotainment and the other for the digital cluster. Kia is also aiming to achieve a 5-star safety rating in the India NCAP this time, which will include six airbags and enhanced safety protection.

Engine and Performance

In terms of engines, Kia will retain its reliable options, including a 1.0-liter turbo-petrol engine for speed enthusiasts and a 1.5-liter diesel engine for long-distance driving. A 1.2-liter naturally aspirated engine will also be available for city driving. There are also reports that a strong hybrid version may be introduced in the future, shattering mileage records.

Advanced Safety and ADAS

Kia is no longer compromising on safety. The new Sonet is likely to feature Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). While it’s not yet clear whether it will feature Level-2 features, features like lane keep assist and autonomous braking make it one of the safest cars in its segment. The new Kia Sonet is poised to revolutionize a segment dominated by cars like the Maruti Brezza, Tata Nexon, and Mahindra XUV 3XO.
