Hyundai’s new compact SUV – Hyundai is preparing to do something big once again. The testing of a new compact SUV has started on the streets of India, and at the first glance it becomes clear that the company is not playing safe game this time. This SUV is a bit old-school in appearance, but the thinking seems completely future-ready. Squarish design, high ground clearance and compact size mean SUVs that fit everywhere, from the city’s tight streets to bad roads.

Hyundai New Compact SUV

This new compact SUV from Hyundai is inspired with Inster found in the European market, but has been designed and engineered with full Indian buyers in mind. Its overall size is kept smaller than 4 meters, making it easier to run in congested cities. Squarish body gives it an automatic SUV look, which nowadays buyers are very fond of.

Ground Clearance

Let me tell you that the most interesting thing about this upcoming Hyundai SUV is its extremely short overhangs. This means that the car will have to be less struggle while passing through speed breakers, potholes and bad roads. High ground clearance makes it ready for rough patches. The buxy shape is not just for look, but it gives the full advantage of both cabin space and boot space as more stuff fits in a small compartment.

Styling

Talking about the design, raised roof rails, large squarish windows and chunky rocker panels give it a proper SUV character. This SUV looks tough, but the details also have a modern twist. Flush-fitted door handles, a slight kick in the beltline near the C-pillar and a sporty roof spoiler keep it from becoming boring. The rear has slim tail lamps which feature a dotted pattern of Hyundai’s Parametric Pixel theme.

Rival

If industry reports are to be believed, this may be the upcoming Tata Punch.ev rival of prototype Hyundai, which is currently known from HE1i codename. Its size, stance and design cues point in the same direction. If this happens, this SUV may knock in Hyundai showrooms by early 2027. Having low camouflage at testing is a sign that lounch timeline is not far away.

Platform

Let me Tells you that HE1i is based on Hyundai’s E-GMP (K) platform, which is also used in Inster. But for India it will be brought with heavy localisation, so that pricing can be kept competitive. India-made LFP cells will be used in the battery pack, for which Hyundai has strategic partnership with Exide Energy Solutions. Local cells mean lower cost and better long-term reliability.

Features

Expect it to feature ventilated front seats, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless phone charging, and front and rear USB Type-C ports. This SUV will also be a leader in safety, with features like a 360-degree camera, advanced driver assistance systems, and six airbags.
