While Tata vehicles are highly popular across India, one of its other flagship SUVs was underwhelming in May 2025. Tata Nexon and Tata Punch retailed over 13,000 buyers in the said month, but Tata Harrier retailed just 894 units in the same timeframe. This indicates a reduction of up to 44.98% compared to last year’s May 2024, when the company sold 1,625 units.
Feature-Rich Cabin and Modern Technology
Tata Harrier features a number of premium features, which give it a luxury feel for its consumers. Some of these features include a big 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a completely digital 10.25-inch driver display. The audio system is driven by 10 speakers, and the SUV also offers ventilated front seats for extra comfort.
Also, the panoramic sunroof adds to cabin ambiance and makes the ride comfortable for passengers. Even with these features, the SUV still lags behind in attracting buyers, and this is an indication that there is stiff competition within the mid-size SUV market.
Focus on Safety
In terms of safety, Tata Harrier maintains a solid reputation. The SUV is equipped with 6 airbags as standard, along with a 360-degree camera, electronic stability control (ESC), tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS), and an advanced driver assistance system (ADAS). Tata Harrier has also received a 5-star rating from Bharat NCAP for family safety in crash tests, giving it a significant edge on paper.
Powertrain and Mileage
Tata Harrier is powered by a 2.0-litre diesel engine that generates 170 bhp of power and 350 Nm of peak torque. The engine comes mated to a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission. Tata claims a mileage of 16.80 km/l for the manual version and 14.60 km/l for the automatic.
Even with a capable diesel engine and respectable fuel economy figures, the SUV is struggling to attract new customers.
Price and Competition
The Tata Harrier is a premium SUV with an ex-showroom price of ₹14.99 lakh going up to ₹25.89 lakh for the flagship model. The vehicle directly competes with Mahindra XUV700 and other top players in the segment. Even with competitive prices and an ample feature list, its sales figures indicate customers opting for other options.
