Bajaj CT125X: Bajaj has something new in the works for the 125cc motorcycling segment, and it may ruffle some competition. As demand increases in the segment that is most in vogue, the company is planning to introduce a new model under its Pulsar banner. Due in FY2026, the new introduction will help expand Bajaj’s market base while providing consumers with additional choices within the sporty commuter space.
Interior Strategy Behind New Launch
Bajaj Auto is putting maximum emphasis on its 125cc motorcycle lineup. During its latest earnings call, the company’s management assured that future product plans would prioritize the sporty 125cc and 150–160cc segments. The decision aligns with the customer base because these segments account for a major portion of Bajaj’s overall sales. At present, more than 40% of Bajaj’s sales comprise the 125cc segment alone, which is a critical segment for growth in the future.
Expected Spec of the New Motorcycle
The new motorcycle is expected to be launched under the popular Pulsar brand. Although Bajaj hasn’t officially announced the design or technical features, reports indicate that it might feature:
- A sporty look to keep up with the Pulsar series
- Enhanced mileage and performance
- Value-centric features that appeal to price-conscious consumers
- A likely re-launch of the CT125X with significant upgrades
Current 125cc Bikes in Bajaj Lineup
The company already has a few options in the 125cc segment such as Pulsar 125, Pulsar NS125, Pulsar N125, and Freedom 125 (CNG variant). These motorcycles serve both performance enthusiasts and regular commuters, providing a balance of efficiency and power in the lower segment.
Market Impact and Growth Targets
Bajaj is anticipating growth in the 125cc segment by 8–12% in FY2026. To be able to reap the full benefits of this, the new model looks to bring in greater volumes and rope in new customers. Bajaj’s market share in the segment increased by 5.5% from FY2021 to FY2024, reaching a high of 25.5%. It dipped marginally in FY2025, falling to 24%. The new model is viewed as a means to propel the brand to where it was before.
Competition and Market Position
Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) is leading in the 125cc plus segment currently. Second is Bajaj, lagging behind by 5–6%. Bajaj, by bringing out its new bike, intends to bridge this distance and perhaps threaten Honda’s dominance in the next fiscal. The intention is plain—to take a larger share of India’s most competitive bike market.
Chance of Discover or CT125X Return
Some reports suggest Bajaj might revive older names like Discover or CT125X for this launch. The CT125X was recently discontinued, but its return with fresh updates could appeal to value-focused customers. This could help Bajaj attract a wider range of buyers, especially in tier-2 and tier-3 cities.
125cc Segment’s Rising Importance
As customer demand focuses on economical but fashionable motorcycles, the 125cc segment is emerging as more crucial than ever. Bajaj’s move to bolster this portfolio is a sign of its intention to satisfy growing demand while enhancing its competitive advantage.
