Tulsi Vivah: The festival of Tulsi Vivah is celebrated every year between the Ekadashi and the Purnima (full moon) of the Shukla Paksha of the month of Kartik. However, its most auspicious time is on Devuthani Ekadashi or Dwadashi. This is because on Devuthani Ekadashi, Lord Vishnu awakens from his four-month yogic sleep. After this, all auspicious activities begin.

That is why Tulsi Vivah will be celebrated on Sunday, November 2nd, in 2025. Therefore, if you perform Tulsi Vivah, you will surely receive the blessings of Lord Vishnu and Mother Tulsi.

What is the significance of Tulsi Vivah?

In Hinduism, Tulsi Vivah is considered as virtuous as Kanyadaan. It is believed that anyone who performs Tulsi Vivah receives good fortune and peace. Those whose marriage is being delayed should definitely participate in Tulsi Vivah.

Tulsi Vivah is also considered a symbol of the union of Lord Vishnu and Mother Tulsi. According to legend, Mother Tulsi was originally an ascetic named Vrinda. However, Lord Vishnu himself took the form of Shaligram to protect her vow of truth. Tulsi and Shaligram were then married.

How to perform Tulsi Vivah?

  1. The Tulsi plant should be bathed and decorated with clean clothes, a scarf, flowers, and jewellery.
  2. After this, Lord Shaligram, or an idol of Lord Vishnu, should be placed in the mandap (the pavilion’s circle) as the deity.
  3. A mandap is built between the Tulsi and Shaligram, where a lamp is lit and the puja begins.
  4. In the marriage, Panchamrit is also used, along with fragrance, flowers, rice grains, and Tulsi water.
  5. The marriage of Tulsi and Shaligram is solemnised with Vedic mantras and auspicious songs.
  6. After the marriage, an aarti is performed and prasad is distributed.
  7. Afterwards, prayers are offered to Lord Vishnu and Mother Tulsi for happiness and good fortune.
