Mokshada Ekadashi 2025 – In Hindu traditions, Mokshada Ekadashi holds deep spiritual significance. Observed during the Shukla Paksha of the Margashirsha month, this Ekadashi is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. While every Ekadashi is auspicious for Vishnu worship, Mokshada Ekadashi is believed to be especially powerful for attaining liberation. Tulsi, the beloved plant of Lord Narayana, also plays a vital role in the rituals performed on this day.
However, there are specific rules related to Tulsi that should never be broken. Ignoring them is believed to undermine the benefits of the fast and may even block the blessings of Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi. Here are the essential traditions to follow.
When Is Mokshada Ekadashi?
This year, Mokshada Ekadashi will be observed on 1 December 2025. According to belief, anyone who observes this fast with devotion is freed from their sins and moves closer to the path of moksha (liberation).
Tulsi Rituals to Avoid
On Ekadashi, devotees must follow specific rules regarding Tulsi:
Tulsi leaves should never be plucked on Mokshada Ekadashi. It is believed that on this day, Tulsi Mata rests, and disturbing her brings dosh. If you need Tulsi leaves for the rituals, pluck them a day in advance and keep them aside for the uja.
While Tulsi should be watered every day, on Ekadashi, no water is offered, as the plant observes symbolic rest. Do not touch or shake the Tulsi plant before sunrise. Wait until daylight appears.
Some people break Tulsi beads (Tulsi mala) to clean the prayer area. This is considered highly inauspicious. The mala should always be kept with respect in the puja space.
Also, avoid harsh words, anger or arguments near the Tulsi plant. It is believed that negative speech disturbs the sacred energy around her.
What to Do on Mokshada Ekadashi?
On Mokshada Ekadashi, chanting the name of Shri Hari is considered especially auspicious. Offer prasad such as kheer or panchamrit, and make sure to perform parikrama of the Tulsi plant. Following these simple rituals is believed to bring blessings from both Lord Vishnu and Tulsi Mata, filling life with peace, purity and spiritual upliftment.
