The Chief Minister emphasized the importance of this decision to acknowledge the dedication of ASHA workers and offer them financial stability. On average, each ASHA worker in Delhi caters to around 2,000 individuals, approximately 400 families. They play a crucial role in delivering primary healthcare, particularly to disadvantaged and impoverished families. Their tireless efforts to serve these families day and night will be fully supported by the government.

ASHAs (Accredited Social Health Activists) are community health workers. They are entrusted with the critical task of delivering healthcare services and government aid to women and children under the National Health Mission. This includes identifying and enrolling pregnant women and facilitating their access to healthcare facilities. They also support expectant mothers with health assessments, vaccinations, iron supplements, and postnatal care.

It is their duty to encourage families of women to opt for safe deliveries in government hospitals or clinics instead of at home. They ensure that children receive complete vaccinations to shield them from life-threatening illnesses. They also participate in polio eradication initiatives. Providing families with contraceptives and supporting family planning are also part of their responsibilities. They bring such families to government healthcare programs regularly. Additionally, they are instrumental in transporting critically ill children and women to Community Health Centers (CHCs) or larger hospitals.
