Amrit Bharat 3.0: Good news for railway passengers. Indian Railways is taking a significant step to enhance the travel experience for the general public by introducing air-conditioned coaches to the Amrit Bharat Express. The upcoming Amrit Bharat 3.0 Express is set to be launched within this fiscal year.
Previously, the Amrit Bharat Express operated as a non-air-conditioned long-distance train with general and sleeper class compartments. These trains offer high speeds, budget-friendly travel, and modern amenities akin to the Vande Bharat Express. Initially launched in 2023, the fleet of these trains has now expanded to over 60. The fare for sleeper class seats is approximately Rs 500 for a journey of around 1,000 kilometers, making it accessible to the masses. The demand is so high that sleeper class occupancy exceeds 100%.
The Amrit Bharat 3.0 will introduce AC First, AC 2-tier, and AC 3-tier coaches, with a total of 14 rakes being commissioned. These coaches will feature various amenities similar to those found on the Vande Bharat Sleeper and Rajdhani Express trains, offering passengers a premium travel experience.
AMRUT Bharat operates at 100% capacity
According to reports, these trains operate at 100% capacity every day. Furthermore, they are popular because they are very economical. It’s worth noting that sleeper class fares on these trains are only ₹500 per thousand kilometers. This affordable fare makes them suitable for the economically disadvantaged.
Key Features of Amrit Bharat trains:
1. Locomotives at both ends using push-pull technology for higher speeds (up to 130 km/h), quicker acceleration, and reduced travel time
2. Foldable snack tables, enhanced seating, and berths
3. Mobile holders, USB-A and USB-C charging points
4. Public Address and Passenger Information System
5. Jerk-free travel with semi-automatic coupler
6. Modern toilets with both Indian and Western styles, automatic soap dispensers, and odor control systems
7. Air spring suspension, crash-resistant features, and improved safety measures
Experts in the railway industry note a fast-growing demand for air-conditioned travel. Sudhanshu Mani, former ICF GM, advocates for a gradual transition towards making most trains AC to truly elevate the travel experience for the common man.
