Weather Warning – IMD Issues Heavy Rain & Hailstorm Alert in These States, Full Weather Update May 13

Weather Warning: According to the Meteorological Department (IMD), a heavy rainfall warning has been issued for several states across the country for Wednesday, May 13. Warnings for heavy rain and thunderstorms have been issued for several states in Eastern and Southern India, while a severe heat alert has been issued for Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Madhya Pradesh.

Weather Warning: Currently, two contrasting weather patterns are being observed across the country. In some states, severe heat prevails, while in others, alerts have been issued for heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and strong winds. In Rajasthan, the mercury has crossed the 48-degree mark, while alerts have been issued for Assam, Meghalaya, and the hilly regions of West Bengal due to heavy rainfall.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the monsoon is likely to arrive in the Andaman Sea, the South Bay of Bengal, and parts of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands by the end of this week. The impact of this is expected to be felt from Southern India all the way to the Northeastern states. Furthermore, the Meteorological Department has issued an alert for severe heatwave conditions in Western Rajasthan over the next 6–7 days.

Heavy Rainfall Alert for the North-East
The spell of heavy rainfall is expected to continue for several days in Northeastern India. According to the Meteorological Department, a heavy rain warning has been issued for Assam and Meghalaya between May 13 and May 17. An alert regarding heavy rainfall has also been issued for Arunachal Pradesh. Additionally, alerts have been issued for Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura, warning of heavy rain accompanied by strong winds of 40 to 50 kilometres per hour.

In the hilly states—such as Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand—intermittent rainfall continues. Meanwhile, rain is also being witnessed in the Northeastern states, including Assam, Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh. Light to moderate rainfall has been recorded in Kerala, Karnataka, and certain parts of Eastern India.

Which states will experience rainfall?

– In Uttar Pradesh, an alert has been issued for today—May 13—anticipating thunderstorms and rainfall across various parts of the state.

– Alerts have been issued for Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand regarding moderate rainfall and snowfall expected until May 14. Additionally, an alert has been issued for these regions specifically for May 13, anticipating hailstorms.

– In Assam and Meghalaya, an alert has been issued anticipating heavy to very heavy rainfall between May 13 and May 17.

– A warning for heavy rainfall has been issued for Arunachal Pradesh, valid from May 13 to May 18.

– In Bihar, an alert has been issued for today (May 13) regarding severe storms accompanied by wind speeds reaching up to 70 km/h.

– In Jharkhand, an alert has been issued for May 15 and 16, anticipating heavy rainfall and thunderstorms.

– For the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, an alert has been issued for the period between May 13 and May 18, anticipating light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning.

– In West Bengal and Sikkim, an alert has been issued for the period between May 13 and May 16, anticipating light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds.

Severe Heat Expected in These States

– According to the Meteorological Department, a heatwave is likely to prevail in isolated pockets of Western Rajasthan between May 13 and May 16. Furthermore, a severe heatwave is anticipated in certain isolated areas on May 17 and 18.

– Heatwave conditions are likely in isolated pockets of Eastern Rajasthan and Western Madhya Pradesh between May 13 and May 18; similarly, in Central Maharashtra and the state of Gujarat, such conditions are expected between May 13 and May 14.

– In Eastern Rajasthan, hot weather conditions are expected to persist in isolated pockets between May 13 and May 15.
