Pension Update: Big relief for old people. Uttar Pradesh’s Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath penned a letter to the residents of the state on World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, emphasizing that honoring the elderly is not merely a formality but a fundamental aspect of Indian culture and heritage. He expressed worries about the increasing disconnect within families and the rising prevalence of old-age homes.

Key Points from the Letter

1. Concern Over the Rise of Old Age Homes

The Chief Minister highlighted the growing number of deserted homes and the surge in old-age homes as a worrisome societal trend. He urged contemplation on the reasons behind such developments, noting that parents who toil their whole lives for their children’s future often find themselves alone in their later years. Modern lifestyles often lead to young individuals being distant from home due to work commitments, making it challenging for them to provide care for their aging parents, who require love and companionship the most.

2. Upholding Traditional Values

CM Yogi underscored the significance of traditional values regarding the treatment of elders, citing examples from Sanatan culture that revere parents and teachers akin to deities. Drawing parallels from the stories of Lord Shiva, Goddess Parvati, Lord Ganesha, and Shravan Kumar, he emphasized the deep-rooted respect for parents in Indian traditions.

3. Initiatives for the Elderly and Destitute Women

The state government’s decision to provide a monthly pension of Rs 1500 to ensure a dignified life for the elderly and destitute women was announced by CM Yogi. Additionally, destitute women will be connected to healthcare schemes like “Ayushman Bharat-Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana” and “Chief Minister Jan Arogya Yojana” for improved medical services and a better quality of life. They will also benefit from housing schemes such as “Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana” and “Chief Minister Awas Yojana” to enhance their living conditions.

Appeal to adopt yoga

The Chief Minister urged all the elderly people that they have given their best contribution to the family, society and the country, hence now they should also take care of their physical and mental health and make yoga a part of their life. He said that the theme of this year’s International Yoga Day, celebrated on June 21st, is “Yoga for Healthy Aging.” This is not just a theme, but a shared commitment to respect, improve health, and live a dignified life for older people around the world.
