Muharram Holiday 2026: The Muharram holiday falls on Friday, June 26th, granting central government employees a long weekend as they will have Saturday and Sunday off. This holiday is part of the list of official holidays for central government employees, allowing employees, students, and professionals to enjoy an extended break at the end of June. Many individuals are already making plans to make the most of this three-day break.
Furthermore, banks will also be closed for three days at the end of June. Bank employees will benefit from an extended holiday period as June 26th marks the Muharram holiday, June 27th is the fourth Saturday of the month when banks are typically closed, and June 28th is a Sunday. This rare occurrence of three consecutive days off is a welcomed opportunity for bank and other employees to relax and unwind.
While most states have declared June 26th as a holiday for Muharram, there is some uncertainty surrounding the holiday date in certain regions. Different states follow varying dates for the Muharram holiday, with the 10th day of Muharram, known as Ashura, expected to be observed on June 26th this year. Some states, like Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, initially scheduled the holiday on June 25th but later shifted it to June 26th. On the other hand, states like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Delhi have already confirmed June 26th as the Muharram holiday.
Consequently, schools and colleges will also be closed on June 26th, providing students with a three-day break at the month’s end. Educational institutions that operate on a five-day week will enjoy a three-day holiday at the end of June, with classes set to resume on Monday, June 29th. It is worth noting that not all educational institutions observe holidays on Saturdays.
