FASTag Apply Online: Big relief for vehicle owners. To simplify toll payments on national highways and expressways across the country, the use of FASTag has become mandatory. FASTag is an electronic toll collection system that works on Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology. It is affixed to the vehicle’s windscreen, and the toll fee is automatically deducted from the linked account or wallet when passing through the toll plaza. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI ) recently introduced a barrier-less toll system at the Mundka toll plaza in the capital, Delhi. This system was introduced to ensure uninterrupted travel, eliminating the need to stop to pay tolls. However, some individuals were exploiting this facility. To avoid paying tolls, people were tampering with their vehicle number plates or replacing them with other ones. This prevented the toll from being deducted from their FASTags, instead deducting the toll from the FASTags of other vehicles parked at home for several days. The NHAI has now taken strict action against this fraud and has contacted the Delhi Police to take action against the fraudsters.
How was the secret of the toll scam revealed?
Several vehicle owners at the Mundka toll plaza complained that their vehicles were parked at home, yet their Fastags were still being charged for toll. Following the complaints, NHAI launched an investigation. The investigation revealed that some individuals were using other vehicle owners’ Fastags by installing fake number plates.
