EPFO: There is a major update for EPFO members. The reach of the Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) continues to expand. According to the Ministry of Labor and Employment, the EPFO added 19.29 lakh new members in June, an increase of 7.86% compared to the same month last year. This increase reflects improved employment opportunities and a continuous change in the workforce.

Official salary data shows that around 1.025 million new members joined the social security body this month. Most of these members are young professionals, with those aged 18 to 25 accounting for 59.14 percent of all new members enrolled in June.

This trend reflects the increasing participation of first-time job seekers and young workers entering the organized sector. Data shows that approximately 14.15 lakh members who had exited the EPFO system rejoined this month. This represents an annual increase of 11.79% compared to June last year.

This information indicates that a lot of workers who switched jobs or took a break from the formal workforce have managed to keep their social security benefits by rejoining the EPFO network. The Ministry of Labor and Employment pointed out that the rise in membership is due to several reasons, such as more job opportunities and increased awareness among workers about the perks available through the EPFO system.

Digital Services Alongside the growing membership, the retirement organization has rolled out various digital initiatives designed to make account management easier for members. EPFO has introduced a full online service via the Unified Member Portal, enabling users to update their personal details and submit e-nominations without needing to visit an EPFO office.

In the past, changing personal information often meant multiple declarations, getting employer approval, and several trips to regional offices. With the new system, members can make a range of updates online from any device with internet access. They can change details like their name, date of birth, gender, nationality, parents’ names, marital status, spouse’s name, membership date, and withdrawal date.

To make changes, members just need to log into the Unified Member Portal, go to the ‘Manage’ section, and select the ‘Modify Basic Details’ option to submit their correction request and keep track of its status.

Online e-Nomination Service

EPFO has also made the e-nomination process easier. Members can add or change nominee information online, including Aadhaar number, date of birth, relationship, and photo. This feature is accessible through the ‘e-Nomination’ section of the portal, where members can distribute their PF share among family members and complete verification using Aadhaar-based e-Sign authentication.

Maintaining accurate records is crucial to ensuring timely withdrawals, pension benefits, and claim settlements, the EPFO said. Errors in personal information or missed nominations can create administrative hurdles and delay payments to beneficiaries.
