Vande Bharat Express: There is a big good news for railway passengers. The Seemanchal area in Bihar has been introduced to a new Amrit Bharat Express train service. This new train departed from New Jalpaiguri heading to Amritsar on Saturday morning. It marks the first long-distance train to traverse the newly established Thakurganj-Araria rail section.
This development has significantly improved travel convenience from the Seemanchal region to Uttar Pradesh and Punjab. The Amrit Bharat Express will operate weekly, leaving New Jalpaiguri every Saturday and returning from Amritsar every Thursday. The ticket price from Thakurganj to Amritsar on this train is Rs 850.
Excitement filled the air at Thakurganj railway station from early morning as the new Amrit Bharat Express train was set to run. A large gathering of railway passengers, local residents, and public officials assembled at the station. When the train arrived at the platform, the station erupted with cheers and welcoming chants. The Amrit Bharat Express departed from New Jalpaiguri on Saturday morning and reached Thakurganj station around 10:30, slightly later than planned. Local residents hailed this as a significant milestone for the Seemanchal region, noting that passengers had long been advocating for improved railway services, which now appear to be realized.
Upon the train’s arrival at the station, members of the Thakurganj Rail Yatri Samiti and local officials greeted the loco pilot and assistant driver with garlands and sweets. Many people also took the opportunity to capture photographs with the train.
Benefits for passengers traveling to Punjab
Sikandar Patel, coordinator of the Thakurganj Rail Yatri Samiti and chief councilor, stated that the launch of the Amrit Bharat Express will directly benefit thousands of passengers in the Seemanchal region. Now, those traveling to North India, including Punjab, will enjoy enhanced facilities and reduced travel times. Amit Sinha, the committee’s vice-president and ward councilor, mentioned that this new rail service will also boost the region’s development.

Train No. 14663 will depart New Jalpaiguri every Saturday at 8:00 AM and reach Amritsar via Thakurganj, Araria, Forbesganj, Sitamarhi, Raxaul, Gorakhpur, Gonda, Bareilly, Ambala, Ludhiana, Jalandhar. Returning, Train No. 14664 will depart Amritsar every Thursday at 12:45 PM and arrive New Jalpaiguri on Saturday at 4:15 AM.

According to railway officials, the Amrit Bharat Express is equipped with modern amenities. It offers a variety of passenger amenities, including comfortable seats, mobile charging points, LED lights, and bio-toilets. Based on push-pull technology, the train is capable of speeds up to 130 kilometers per hour, improving both operation and punctuality.
During the welcome ceremony, people expressed their gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said that the new rail services are rapidly progressing the Seemanchal region. Many dignitaries, including Dilip Singh, Sajan Kumar, Manoj Kumar, Khaliq Ansari, Rajesh Karnani, and Shiv Shankar Mahato, were present.
