Aadhaar Face Authentication: UIDAI Launches New Tool, Service Will Be Now Faster and Easier

Aadhaar Face Authentication: Big news for Aadhaar card holders. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has introduced a new face authentication tool. This innovative tool enables banks, fintech companies, and other entities in the financial sector to conduct face authentication for customers directly from their servers, making the verification process much simpler. The Aadhaar Face Authentication Software Development Kit (SDK) and Sandbox were unveiled at the Global Fintech Fest 2026.

This advancement will allow ecosystem partners, including banks, fintech firms, and other financial sector participants, to seamlessly integrate, test, and deploy Aadhaar face authentication within their digital applications.

What features does UIDAI’s new tool offer?

The Aadhaar Face Authentication SDK incorporates UIDAI’s face authentication capabilities directly into native Android and iOS applications. This means users no longer need to switch between various apps, resulting in a smooth, single-app authentication experience.

As reported by PIB, this ready-to-use SDK streamlines integration for ecosystem partners and includes AI/ML-based liveness detection and anti-spoofing features. It also ensures secure handling of authentication data and encryption, and is compatible with all types of consumer smartphones. This SDK is anticipated to assist government departments, banks, fintech companies, and other organizations in implementing face authentication services more effectively.

Sandbox also introduced

In addition to the SDK, UIDAI has launched the Aadhaar Face Authentication Sandbox. This secure and controlled environment enables organizations to integrate, test, and validate the complete face authentication process before deploying it in a live setting.

The sandbox enables developers and quality assurance teams to test key steps, including user provisioning and consent, face capture, liveness checks, authentication, error handling, and response validation—without requiring external biometric hardware. It also allows testing failure scenarios such as invalid digital signatures, network disruptions, timeouts, and spoofing attempts.

UIDAI Chairman Neelkanth Mishra stated that the new SDK will allow partner banks and businesses to perform Aadhaar authentication on their own servers, rather than routing requests through UIDAI’s central system. Under this model, authentication occurs on the bank’s own servers, rather than on UIDAI’s central infrastructure. This means the bank keeps its local authentication process secure, while the risk doesn’t reach UIDAI’s systems.
