LPG Cylinder Rate Update: Pre-Holi Price Change Likely, Here’s What We Know

LPG Price: Big news for common people. LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) rates will be updated on March 1st, before Holi. Oil marketing companies will release new rates on this day. The trend over the past five years shows that domestic and commercial cylinder rates have consistently increased in March. Commercial cylinders have become more expensive each time, while whenever domestic LPG cylinder rates have changed in March, consumers have been shocked.

Currently, a domestic LPG cylinder is available for Rs 853 in Delhi, Rs 879 in Kolkata, Rs 852.50 in Mumbai, and Rs 868.50 in Chennai. These figures are taken from the Indian Oil website. According to this data, a commercial cylinder is selling for Rs 1740.50 in Delhi, Rs 1844.50 in Kolkata, Rs 1692 in Mumbai, and Rs 1899.50 in Chennai.

March trend of domestic cylinder rates

In the last five years, domestic LPG cylinder rates have changed only three times in March. Twice on March 1 and once on March 22. Domestic LPG cylinders became costlier by Rs 50 on March 1, 2023. The rate change occurred after July 6, 2022, and the price increased by Rs 50 to Rs 1,103 in Delhi. The price of this 14-kg cylinder rose to Rs 1,129 in Kolkata, Rs 1,102.50 in Mumbai, and Rs 1,118.50 in Chennai.

Whereas, in the year 2022, the rate of domestic LPG cylinder changed on March 22. There was an increase of Rs 50 on this day also. The rate change took place after October 6, 2021. The domestic cylinder reached Rs 949.50 in Delhi. Similarly, it became Rs 976 in Kolkata, Rs 949.50 in Mumbai and Rs 965.50 in Chennai. March of the year 2021 also gave a shock to the consumers of domestic LPG cylinder. On March 1, 2021, the domestic LPG cylinder became costlier by Rs 25 and became Rs 819 in Delhi, Rs 845.50 in Kolkata, Rs 819 in Mumbai and Rs 835 in Chennai.

Commercial LPG cylinder consumers faced a major setback in 2023. Commercial LPG cylinders in Delhi rose by Rs 105 to Rs 2,120, in Kolkata by Rs 108 to Rs 2,222, in Mumbai by Rs 106 to Rs 2,072, and in Chennai by Rs 106 to Rs 2,268.

A shock of more than Rs 100 in March 2022

In 2022, the price of commercial LPG cylinders changed twice: on March 1 and March 22. Compared to the February 1, 2022, price of commercial LPG cylinders on March 1 increased by Rs 105 to Rs 2012 in Delhi and Rs 108 to Rs 2095 in Kolkata. Blue cylinders also became more expensive by Rs 106 each in Mumbai and Chennai, reaching Rs 1963 in Mumbai and Rs 2146 in Chennai.
