Namo Bharat Train: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Namo Bharat and the much-awaited Meerut Metro at a grand event held at Meerut’s Shatabdi Nagar station on Sunday. The Prime Minister flagged off these trains. With this, India has now joined the select group of countries where both high-speed regional trains and local metro have successfully started operating on the same track. The Namo Bharat train will now cover the 88-kilometer journey from Meerut to Delhi in 55 minutes. It will pass through 13 stations, two of which are underground.

Upon arrival in Meerut, PM Modi was welcomed by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. PM Modi then inaugurated both trains. He also rode the metro and interacted with students already present on board. The Namo Bharat Train will provide high-speed connectivity from Meerut to Delhi and Ghaziabad for long-distance travelers. The Meerut Metro will provide convenient local transportation for travelers within the city. Both trains share the same tracks and stations, a revolutionary step globally.

Historic day for Meerut

Today is a historic day for Meerut and all of western Uttar Pradesh. The simultaneous launch of Namo Bharat and the Meerut Metro will create new development and employment opportunities in the region. Those traveling from Meerut to Delhi for studies and jobs will now have significant convenience. Similarly, Delhi residents will find it easier to commute to Meerut and work. The Metro will also provide relief from traffic jams.

Women’s empowerment has also been emphasized in the operation of the Namo Bharat Rapid Rail. Approximately 80 percent of the driver staff on this service will be women. Travel time between Delhi and Meerut will now be reduced to 55 minutes. A multi-integrated transit system has been developed at Delhi’s Sarai Kale Khan station, where smart ticketing vending machines and QR code-based ticketing have been installed.

Keeping future needs in mind, six platforms have been built at the station, so that the Delhi -Alwar and Delhi-Karnal Rapid Rail services can be connected to it in the future. The Namo Bharat Rapid Rail will feature a modern bullet train-like feel. The train is capable of speeds of 180 kilometers per hour and its driver’s console is fully digital. Premium coaches are also provided, with mobile and laptop charging points. Blind curtains have been provided to protect from sunlight.
