My Saying, India Reduced Oil Trade with Russia! – Trump Makes Big Claim

New Delhi: US President Donald Trump has repeatedly made lofty claims about the India-Russia oil trade from public platforms. However, India has repeatedly refuted his claims. Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump has once again made a significant claim, claiming that India has significantly reduced its oil purchases from Russia.

In a White House press briefing, Trump also mentioned the excellent relationship with India. He said that India has scaled back its trade with Russia. Previously, India was buying oil from Russia, but it scaled back significantly at his request because it wanted to end the war. According to Trump, this war is killing 2,500 people every month. He also spoke of a good relationship with PM Modi.

What did Sergio Gor say?

US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor said that India has promised not to buy Russian oil. He has made similar claims before. Gore made the remarks on Friday during the New Delhi AI Summit, after India joined the Pax Silica initiative. He said, “We’ve seen India diversify its oil. This isn’t just about India. The US doesn’t want anyone buying Russian oil.”

US has already imposed tariffs on India.

The US imposed a hefty 25% additional tariff on India’s oil imports from Russia. Following this, the overall tariff on India in the US rose to 50%. Recently, following an interim trade agreement between New Delhi and Washington, the hefty tariff was reduced to 18%. When lifting the tariffs, the White House stated that India had promised to stop importing Russian oil, directly or indirectly.

India’s stance on Russian oil

The US also stated that India would purchase American energy products and promised a framework to enhance defence cooperation over the next 10 years. India has recently reduced its purchase of Russian oil but has clarified that its decision is linked to changes in the global energy market.
