Pressure Mounts on the 8th Pay Commission, Railway Employees Demanding a Minimum Wage of ₹51,480

8th Pay Commission Update: An important meeting was held in New Delhi on February 16th and 17th to discuss key issues concerning railway employees. The meeting was held under the auspices of the DC/JCM Standing Committee and the All India Railwaymen’s Federation. Several senior officials, including the Chairman and CEO of the Railway Board, were present. The meeting was chaired by AIRF General Secretary Shiv Gopal Mishra.

In-depth discussion on pay and service conditions

Representatives from various employee organizations participated in the meeting. East Central Railway Employees Union General Secretary S.N.P. Srivastava, S.S.D. Mishra and other officials elaborated on issues related to employees’ pay, allowances, and service conditions. They stated that many demands have been pending for a long time, and concrete decisions should be taken on them now.

Demand for early implementation of the 8th Pay Commission

Strong demands were raised during the meeting regarding the 8th Pay Commission. Union leaders demanded its implementation within a maximum of six months. They argued that inflation is constantly rising and the cost of living is higher than ever before. Consequently, delays in pay revisions are putting additional financial pressure on employees.

Minimum Wage Proposal of ₹51,480

The meeting also proposed that the minimum basic pay under the Eighth Pay Commission be fixed at ₹51,480. Employee organizations believe this amount is appropriate given the current economic conditions. They say it will boost employee morale and have a positive impact on efficiency.

Earthly Pay Increments Also Emphasized

ECRKU media in-charge AK Sharma said that regular annual pay increases should be ensured along with pay revisions. He believes that if annual increases are not received on time, the full impact of the Pay Commission’s benefits will not reach employees.

Expectation for Prompt Action from the Government

The meeting also reiterated that protecting the interests of railway and central government employees should be the top priority. Employee organizations requested the government to make a positive decision on their demands soon. The leaders expressed hope that the government will consider the matter sympathetically and take necessary steps.
