Pension Rules 2026 – Are daughters entitled to pension? Learn the Government’s Rules

Pension Rules 2026: Several changes have recently been implemented regarding family pensions in government pensions, which are especially important for the rights of daughters and other family members. On Wednesday, the Department of Pension & Pensioners’ Welfare implemented changes to the rules related to life pension certificates. According to the new rule, if both parents wish to receive 75 percent of the pension, they must submit a life certificate every year.

Are divorced women eligible for a pension?

The biggest change has been made to the daughters’ family pension rights. Now, even if a government employee’s daughter gets married or divorced, her pension entitlement will remain. Previously, pensions stopped upon marriage, but now the rules have changed. The central government has clarified that unmarried, widowed, or divorced daughters will receive a family pension for life. This rule is applicable under the Central Civil Services Pension Rules 2021 and is now strictly followed.

What happens upon the death of a government employee?

If a government employee dies, the wife or husband receives the pension first. If they are no longer eligible, the children receive the family pension. Sons receive the pension until they are 25 years old, but there is no age limit for daughters. Daughters continue to receive the pension even after marriage. If a daughter becomes a widow or divorcee and does not remarry, she will continue to receive the pension for life. Disabled children also receive a lifelong pension.

The pension amount is determined as follows: If the employee dies before retirement, the family pension is 50 percent of the employee’s last salary. If the death occurs after retirement, the pension is 30 percent. If the daughter is still employed, she will still receive the pension.

A new rule was implemented for daughters

Government employees should ensure that the daughter’s name is included in the nomination form. Older forms often only included the wife’s or son’s name, which made it difficult for daughters to receive the pension. The implementation of the new rules will now ensure daughters’ rights. It is important to update the family’s pension documents and bank details so that the daughter can get her full rights.
