Laxmir Bhandar Yojana: Good news for womens. The number of schemes for women and vulnerable sections of the society is steadily increasing in the country. In this regard, the West Bengal government has presented an interim budget of Rs 4.06 lakh crore for the financial year 2026-27. The budget includes several major decisions for women, youth, gig workers, and government employees.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Finance Minister Chandrima Bhattacharya have described it as a budget that prioritizes public needs. The biggest highlights of the budget are the expansion of the Lakshmi Bhandar scheme and new social security schemes, which are expected to improve the economic situation of millions of people.
Increase in Laxmi Bhandar Scheme
The Lakshmi Bhandar Yojana is considered the most significant announcement of this budget. The government announced that starting February 2026, female beneficiaries will receive an additional Rs 500 per month. Currently, SC/ST women receive Rs 1,200 and women from other categories receive Rs 1,000 per month. The increase will increase these amounts to Rs 1,700 and Rs 1,500, respectively. It should be noted that benefits under this scheme will be available only to women residing in West Bengal, aged between 25 and 60, and whose families are registered under the Swasthya Sathi Yojana. Furthermore, this scheme is for women whose families do not hold a government job, receive a regular salary, or receive a pension.
Gig workers will also get social security benefits
This time, gig workers have been included in the budget. According to the proposal, gig workers engaged in app-based or temporary work will be covered by existing state government social security schemes, such as “Swasthya Sathi.” This will provide these workers with health care benefits and strengthen their financial security.
