Bihar Mukhyamantri Kanya Utthan Yojana: This ambitious scheme of the Bihar government is proving to be a major financial support for the state’s graduates. Under the Mukhyamantri Kanya Utthan Yojana, unmarried female students who graduate receive a one-time incentive of ₹50,000 directly into their bank accounts.
According to the latest reports from February 4, 2026, the Education Department has expedited the processing and payment of pending applications so that female students can afford their fees and textbooks for higher education without any family burden.
Scheme Objective and Financial Benefits

The primary goal of this scheme is to motivate the daughters of Bihar to pursue higher education and strengthen their educational standing in society. Financial constraints often prevent female students from pursuing higher education after graduation, but this ₹50,000 amount acts as a safety net for them.
This amount not only helps cover admission fees and purchase study materials, but also significantly contributes to students’ coaching and living expenses while preparing for competitive exams like the UPSC, BPSC, or B.Ed. The government has made special provisions for this scheme in this year’s budget so that eligible students don’t have to wait long for payments.
Eligibility Conditions and Important Rules
To benefit from the scheme, certain basic conditions must be met, the most important of which is that the student must be a permanent resident of Bihar. Furthermore, the student must have completed the graduation examination from a recognized university or college in Bihar.
This scheme is specifically for unmarried students, so a declaration of unmarried Ness is crucial at the time of application. Another technically important condition is that the beneficiary’s bank account must be held in a local bank in Bihar and must be linked to their Aadhaar card, i.e., seeded for DBT; otherwise, payment processing may be problematic.

Online Application
The entire application process for this scheme is digital and completed through the MedhaSoft portal (medhasoft.bihar.gov.in). Students register on the portal, selecting their university, uploading their graduation marksheet, Aadhaar card, residence certificate, and bank passbook.
After the application is submitted, the documents are verified by the relevant university and the Education Department. If all information is found to be correct, the student’s status appears as “Ready for Payment” on the portal, and the amount is transferred directly to their account shortly thereafter.
