Free Laptop Scheme: Rekha Gupta, Delhi’s government, has taken an ambitious step to take the state’s meritorious students to new heights in the digital age. The government has approved the “Mukhyamantri Digital Education Scheme,” under which 10th-grade toppers will be provided with high-end laptops absolutely free of charge.
In a time when coding, AI, and online learning have become integral parts of education, this scheme is a boon for students who were previously left behind due to a lack of resources. The primary objective of this initiative is to digitally empower students in Delhi’s government and aided schools and prepare them for competitive exams.
Powerful Laptop Features and Budget

The Delhi government isn’t providing laptops just for the sake of it; it’s providing students with a “powerful machine” that will serve them well for the next several years of their careers. The government has allocated a hefty budget of approximately ₹7.5 crore for this purpose.
According to the plan, 1,200 selected students will be provided with laptops with state-of-the-art configurations, with a unit estimated to cost over ₹60,000. These laptops will be so powerful that students will be able to easily conduct coding, advanced research, project work, and initial preparation for high-level competitive exams like JEE, NEET, or UPSC.
Who will receive this remarkable digital gift
To benefit from this scheme, the government has set strict but transparent eligibility criteria so that only truly meritorious students can benefit. The first condition is that students must be permanent residents of Delhi and have passed the 10th grade from a regular school in Delhi.
Selection will be based solely on the CBSE merit list, from which the top 1,200 students will be selected. Furthermore, students must be enrolled in a regular school in Delhi for 11th grade. It is important to note that students who appear for the exam through the National Open School (NIOS) or privately will not be covered under this scheme.
Selection and Distribution Process

The best part of this scheme is its transparent selection process. Meritorious students do not need to visit any government office or apply separately on any portal for the Chief Minister’s Digital Education Scheme. As soon as the 10th-grade results are declared, the Education Department will share the topper data with the CBSE, and the government will prepare an official list of the top 1,200 students.
The respective schools will then be informed. Students will simply need to verify some basic documents, such as their Aadhaar card and marksheet, through their school. Finally, a special ceremony will be held to hand over their laptops to the students.
