Widow Pension Scheme: The central government is running several government schemes for the betterment of women’s lives. The government’s objective in running these schemes is to make women financially independent. If you are a woman, this news could be very important for you. The Delhi government has delivered a major blow to women. Under the Women’s Empowerment Scheme, women in Delhi receive ₹2500. Women are waiting for this installment of the scheme. The Delhi government has taken a major step regarding the widow pension scheme. During verification, the government found that thousands of women were receiving pension money despite not meeting the eligibility criteria.

During its verification drive, the government found that many widow pension beneficiaries had either died or remarried, yet they were still receiving pensions. Under this campaign, which was conducted last year, the pension accounts of 63,844 women aged 18 to 60 were closed. The departmental investigation also revealed that some women were fraudulently benefiting from the scheme.

Monthly Pension of ₹2,500

The Delhi government provides a monthly pension of ₹2,500 to divorced, widowed, and economically weaker single women under the Women in Distress Scheme. This scheme is only for women aged 18 to 60 years. Until December 2025, 3.99 lakh women were benefiting from this scheme. Following irregularities and complaints, the government conducted a verification drive and removed more than 63,000 names.

Number of Names Removed in Each District

The verification revealed that the highest number of names, 12,291, were removed from the North West district, while the lowest number, 973, was removed from the New Delhi district. The department found that the addresses of 16,444 names were incorrect, 7,039 women were not found at the given addresses, 8,002 women were deceased, and 15,136 women had left Delhi.

Those who remarried and were receiving double pensions have been removed

The names of widowed women who had remarried but were still receiving pensions have also been removed. 543 such cases were identified. In addition, 127 women were already receiving benefits from another government pension scheme, and 1,237 people were fraudulently receiving pensions. All of these names have been removed from the scheme.

Eligibility for Widow’s Pension

To be eligible for the pension, women must be between 18 and 60 years of age, must have been a permanent resident of Delhi for at least 5 years at the time of application, their annual income should not exceed Rs. 1 lakh, they must have a bank account linked to their Aadhaar card, and they should not be receiving any other pension.

To check the status of your pension, log in to the e-district portal. After logging in, you can get the information by clicking on “Track My Application”. Alternatively, you can also check the list at your nearest Women and Child Development office.
