School Closed: The impact of the cold is quite evident in North India right now. The dropping temperatures and cold wave are causing disruptions to daily life. The intensifying cold and thick fog have greatly diminished visibility across many states. With this in mind, authorities in various states, including Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi-NCR, and Punjab, have implemented precautionary measures concerning school holidays. The administration mentioned that this choice was made with children’s safety as a priority.

School holidays have been extended

The Haryana government has opted to prolong the winter break for schools until January 17. Schools were initially set to reopen on January 16, but due to harsh weather conditions, they have now been instructed to stay closed for an additional day. In several districts, the school holidays have been extended until January 20, while in some regions, the opening times for schools have been adjusted. The administration’s aim is to shield young children from the severe cold and thick fog in the mornings, as visibility is frequently poor during this period, making it hazardous to go outside.

Changes in school timings in Punjab

Considering the rising number of accidents caused by thick fog and extreme cold in Punjab, the government has modified the school timings. Schools will operate under the new schedule from January 16 to 21. During this time, primary schools will be open from 10 am to 3 pm, and secondary and high schools will be open from 10 am to 3:20 pm. However, the situation regarding school timings in Delhi and nearby areas remains uncertain. Parents and students are advised to verify the latest updates from their school and local authorities before heading to school.

Due to the severe cold and dense fog in Uttar Pradesh, important decisions have been taken regarding schools. In Sambhal district, the District Magistrate has declared a holiday for all schools from nursery to class 8 on January 16 and 17. In many other districts, school holidays have also been extended till January 20. In Noida, Ghaziabad and Lucknow, physical classes for children up to class 8 have been stopped, while for higher classes, the option of studying online or at changed timings has been given. In Prayagraj, schools are already closed due to the Magh Mela.
